The Meal Formula I Use Every Week

For a long time, I thought cooking dinner was the hardest part of my day.

It wasn’t. The hardest part was deciding.

Every afternoon, the same questions showed up.

What should I make?

Do I have everything?

Will everyone eat it?

Do I need to stop at the grocery store?

By the time I started cooking, I already felt tired. Not because of the cooking. Because of all the thinking.

I Didn’t Need More Recipes

Like many moms, I kept saving recipes. Pinterest boards. Instagram reels. Screenshots. Cookbooks.

I had plenty of ideas. What I didn’t have was an easy way to choose between them.

That’s when I realized I didn’t need more inspiration. I needed fewer decisions.

My Weekly Formula

Instead of planning seven specific dinners, I simply choose a few meal categories.

One chicken meal.

One pasta meal.

One vegetarian meal.

One soup or salad.

One leftovers night.

One flexible night.

The meals change every week. The structure stays the same. And that’s exactly why it works.

Structure Without Rigidity

When Tuesday is pasta night, I don’t have to ask “what should I cook?” I only ask “which pasta?”

That’s a much smaller decision. And smaller decisions require much less mental energy.

The formula gives me enough structure to stop overthinking, while leaving plenty of room for real life.

Let Real Life Win Sometimes

Some weeks won’t follow the plan. You’ll get home late. Someone will ask for breakfast for dinner. You’ll eat leftovers twice. You’ll order takeout.

None of that means the system failed. The system exists to support your life. Not the other way around.

Try This Today

The goal isn’t to organize every meal perfectly. The goal is to stop making dinner feel like one more problem to solve. A simple formula won’t just save you time. It will save something even more valuable. Your mental energy.
